The prestigious Cuban composer Tania León will be the next resident of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, United Kingdom. This will be a recognition of the talent and achievement of the artist born on the Island. Her work there will span two seasons beginning in September 2023.

On the good news, the Cuban offered statements to BBC Music Magazine. "I am delighted to have been named the next resident composer of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. During the two years, I will be able to really get to know the Orchestra and the personalities of each musician, writing specifically for this group of talented musicians will be a pleasure."

The Cuban artist will be essential in the daily work of the orchestra, both in the educational aspect and in community work. The contract also includes mentoring young composers. This latter task is precisely one that Tania will carry out with pleasure. The goal of this action is to support the progression of talented orchestral composers at the beginning of their careers.

Stride is a work by Tania León that the orchestra will premiere on March 31st. By the way, the piece won the Pulitzer Prize. Another reason for the Cuban to be proud to work with the group.

Once the orchestra announces its spring season, more will be known about the composer's works and their inclusion in the Philharmonic's repertoire. The Cuban artist, 79 years old, has also distinguished herself as an orchestra conductor, teacher, and advisor to artistic organizations.

Among her many accolades is the tribute from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for her contribution to the culture of the United States. The stellar artist also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Governor of New York in 1998.

Tania is also a co-founder of the Sonidos de las Américas festival, of the American Composers Orchestra, and was an advisor to the New York Philharmonic.
