Cuban singer Haila María Mompié has lost the concert she intended to perform at a nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 15th due to pressure exerted by some members of the Cuban exile community in the United States and public opinion from the Cuban community.
Haila had everything ready for her concert at the Rhythms Event Center in Las Vegas, but her plans had to change with the news, which was confirmed to the CiberCuba news site by "the venue's own manager."
The source revealed that the institution canceled the Cuban singer's show very shortly after confirming it "to avoid controversy with Cubans in the United States." The nightclub center's representatives would have found out through several phone calls that the singer was the subject of strong controversy due to her visits to the US and her support for the Havana government.
The Cuban singer, who calls herself "La Diva del Pueblo," has announced through her social media a show on November 14th in Miami, specifically at the Studio 60 Night-club.
As of now, the singer or her representatives have not made any statements about the cancellation of the show at the Rhythms Event Center.
Haila was part of musical groups such as Bamboleo before launching her solo career. At 45 years old, she is currently in Miami, trying to arrange a tour.
Although she was born in eastern Cuba, in Amancio, Las Tunas, her family moved to the capital when she was 15 years old.
Her first performance outside of Cuba was in 1994 in Mexico, with the Guajira Habanera project.
In 1998 the singer was part of the group Azúcar Negra, of Cuban salsa and timba, until in 2000 she began her solo career, in which she has released recordings such as Haila (2001), En vivo (2002), Diferente (2004), Tal como soy (2008), Mala (2011), Cómo voy a decirte (2015), and Mujer de acero (2017).
