Silvio Rodríguez will perform a public concert on the steps of the University of Havana on September 19 at 7 p.m., as the opening of the Latin American tour that will take him to venues in five countries.

When the tour was announced in April, it was revealed that the starting point would be the Cuban capital, and that the exact date and location of that concert would be announced later. The steps of the UH, a stage that the troubadour has graced many times throughout his career, was the chosen location, according to what was published today by the artist's official website, Zurrón del Aprendiz.

He will be accompanied by Emilio Vega (vibraphone), Jorge Aragón (piano), Niurka González (flute and clarinet), Jorge Reyes (double bass), Rachid López (guitar), Maykel Elizarde (tres) and Oliver Valdés (drums). As for the repertoire, the troubadour told OnCuba that it will be a combination of his latest album, Quería saber, with another one that is coming out. "In addition to some inevitable ones," he added before giving us an exclusive: "We're going to start with a song never performed in concerts: 'Ala de colibrí'".

For decades the steps of the University of Havana have been the stage for great concerts with free public access; in particular, memorable performances by exponents of the nueva trova and, among them, by Silvio, who played there for the last time in 2005, closing the tour Hacia una cultura de la naturaleza, in collaboration with the Fundación Antonio Núñez Jiménez.

The Latin American tour, to take place between late September and early November, will include performances in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru and Colombia.
