The notable former baseball player Luis Ulacia is recovering from a tragic traffic accident he suffered this Saturday on a highway in the northern strip of Camagüey territory.
Although the two-time Olympic Baseball champion (Barcelona-92 and Atlanta-96) only has an ankle fracture, his seven-year-old granddaughter was traveling with him, who unfortunately passed away, according to confirmation from the Camagüey Sports Department to the local newspaper Adelante.
The legendary leadoff batter of provincial and national teams had a front tire blow out on his vehicle on a highway near the town of Minas, located 30 kilometers north of the provincial capital, reports the aforementioned Camagüey media outlet on its Facebook profile.
Ulacia was first assisted at the hospital in that locality, but was later transferred to the city of Camagüey.
The 55-year-old former player is remembered for the number one he wore on his uniform throughout his career, as well as for his ability to bat the ball, which earned him the leadoff position on all the teams he was part of.
To his Olympic titles are added other world titles and intercontinental and Pan-American tournaments.
Likewise, he participated with the Camagüey Bulls in 21 Cuban Baseball national series and managed the franchise during the XLVIII edition.
