The television series Breaking the Silence, directed by Rolando Chiong, will return to Cubavisión's programming schedule soon with new episodes full of conflicts related to gender-based violence.
To the nine stories told in the first season, 11 new hardships will now be added that will not only impact the audience, but will also reveal circumstances that can be verified in real life, said the renowned director.
Homophobia seen from the perspective of parenthood, sexual violence between siblings, victims turned into perpetrators, and other aspects that go beyond violence by men against women, will arrive in the new installment, on Tuesday nights.
The new chapters once again counted on specialized advice from Marelén Díaz Tenorio, from the Oscar Arnulfo Romero Center; not forgetting Marisel Pestana, the dramaturgical adviser.
In an exclusive interview with ACN, "Chino" Chiong explained that in the difficult work of screenwriting he was accompanied again by Lucía Chiong, Legna Pérez Cruzata and he had the enriching additions of Mariela López, Yasmín de Armas and the recently deceased Max Álvarez.
Without revealing too much about the plots of the different chapters, the director of popular dramatizations such as "Al compás del son" and "Santa María del Porvenir", previewed that the treatment of the themes includes the rarely addressed relationship of violence by women toward men.
Actors such as Daisy Quintana, Roli Chiong, Yenisse Soria, Luis Alberto García, Bárbaro Marín, Jorge Perugorría, Jackeline Arenal, Linda Soriano and Yohandry Aballe, among others, share heartbreaking roles that through dialogue and direction itself involved incredible concentration.
One has to be very careful in the approach from the perspective of visuality, he added, "since sometimes there are things that you can only suggest, but on the edge of what is explicit. It's like walking a tightrope so as not to be grotesque. That's why, from the script itself, you have to be very clear".
No chapter has a moral lesson, that is, Breaking the Silence is a voice, a showcase for reflection, not a lesson in ethical or social morality. The chapters are constructed to lead people to think and debate about those attitudes, Chiong emphasized.
The episode that will close the second season was already premiered at the Chaplin cinema in the Cuban capital a few months ago, and is titled "With Cause".
On that occasion, the silence of the audience to the chapter starring Luis Alberto García could only be broken with an ovation at the end of the screening of its 45 minutes.
For television broadcasts on Cubavisión, the channel has prepared a preliminary segment with specialists on the subject, directed by Elena Palacios, which should lead to a better understanding of the phenomenon, case by case.
Finally, Rolando Chiong confessed to being enthusiastic because he will soon begin filming a series about Frank País with locations in Havana and Santiago de Cuba, and which will be named: Mi País.
