Boxer Robeisy Ramírez (10-1, 6 KOs) knocked out Puerto Rican Abraham Nova (21-1, 15 KOs) last Saturday.

In the fifth round of a fight scheduled for ten rounds, the Cuban — who defends the featherweight title (126 pounds) — dealt the Puerto Rican his first professional loss.

"This is the result of my evolution, of the hard work I've done with my team. This is the process," Ramírez explained after his victory at Madison Square Garden in New York. A venue he arrived at amid great media expectations.

"It was all a matter of strategy. I'm fortunate to work with Ismael Salas, he's a genius," he added.

Specialized media agree that "El Tren" dominated the five rounds that the fight lasted, combining his blows against the Puerto Rican with solid defense that prevented his opponent from being effective.

Although in the first round the Puerto Rican made a better impression in the ring, the Cuban managed to prevail in the rest of the fight despite facing an opponent who surpassed him in height, reach, and body weight.

Ramírez — who landed the most important blows with his left hand — almost managed to advance his victory in the third round when an accurate combination put the Puerto Rican in bad shape, who barely escaped being knocked out at that moment.

However, a straight left hand punch to Nova's face two minutes into the fifth round sent the Puerto Rican to the canvas with no chance of recovery.

The fight came amid great expectations.

For Ramírez this was his 12th victory since he made his professional debut in 2019. For Nova, this was his first loss after 21 consecutive wins (15 of them by knockout).

Before making his professional boxing debut, Robeisy Ramírez built a reputation in amateur boxing after winning gold medals at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
