The Cuban Omara Durand achieved the gold medal in the 200 meters category T12 (profound visual impairment) at the World Parathletics Championship in Dubai.

Accompanied by her guide Yunior Kindelán, Durand, a five-time Paralympic champion and multi-awarded athlete worldwide, devoured the segment in 23.57 seconds, the best time of the year, on the track at Dubai Center Club.

The Caribbean athlete surpassed at the finish line the Spanish Adiaratu Iglesias (24.31), silver, and the Ukrainian Oksana Boturchuk (24.44), bronze, to complete a golden triple after victories in the 100 and 400 meters at earlier dates.

Omara devoured the 100 meters in 11.66 and the lap around the track in 52.85 seconds to maintain her undefeated record in this type of championship since the Christchurch, New Zealand edition in 2011.

Considered the Usain Bolt of women's athletics for people with disabilities, the Cuban, world record holder in each of those distances, has more than a decade of invincibility, as she has not lost a race since 2008, when she debuted at the Beijing Paralympic Games, at just 18 years old.

Owner of dream personal records, with 11.40 in 100, 23.03 in 200 and 51.77 in 400, the Caribbean athlete finishes a season full of successes, after her three championships at the VI Pan American Games Lima 2019.
