The artistic trajectory of the so-called Watercolorist of Antillean poetry, Luis Carbonell (1923-2014), a Cuban cultural icon, was evoked this Thursday at the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac), the institution reported today.
At the Uneac headquarters in Havana, Carbonell's legacy a century after his birth was the center of a panel made up of the Honorary President of the organization, Miguel Barnet, the vice-chair Pedro de la Hoz and the president of the Nicolás Guillén Foundation, Nicolás Hernández Guillén, according to an announcement made on Twitter by the organizers of the event.
Due to the centennial of the notable artist born in Santiago de Cuba, to be celebrated on July 26, celebration activities are taking place throughout the country honoring the prolific life and work of the Watercolorist of Antillean poetry.
At the recently concluded Fiesta del fuego, which took place in Carbonell's native city, great space was dedicated to recognizing his artistic values, his gifts as an oral narrator and his charismatic personality that deeply resonated with Cuban audiences.
Barnet, honorary president of Uneac, defined him as the pinnacle of oral narration, the expression of the deepest joys of the collective soul, the satisfaction of everyday desires, where not only joy but also reflection have their most hidden foundation.
