Rafael Hernández Receives National Prize for Cultural Research

The award honors his intellectual trajectory, in which he has promoted an extensive line of work on cultural relations between Cuba and the United States.

Rafael Hernández deserved the National Prize for Cultural Research for his life's work, in recognition of his work as a political scientist, philosopher, and professor.

Granted by the Ministry of Culture (Mincult), the award distinguishes his intellectual trajectory, which highlights the promotion of an extensive line of work on cultural relations between Cuba and the United States.

Hernández has published numerous books, articles, and essays as author, compiler, and editor, according to a note from the Cubarte portal. On OnCuba, Rafael Hernández maintains the column "Con todas sus letras."

A graduate in French Language and Literature from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Havana, Hernández is also a senior researcher and Doctor in Latin American Studies from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Likewise, he is the director of the magazine Temas since its creation in 1995. This magazine brings together diverse positions and interpretations that can enrich knowledge of Cuban and world reality, from an integral and multidisciplinary perspective.

Temas aims to "constitute a space for critical reflection and debate of ideas, regarding the problems of culture and contemporary social thought in Cuba and in the world. Its profile encompasses the arts and letters, problems of social and humanistic sciences, political theory and ideology," according to its website.

The jury of the National Prize for Cultural Research was presided over by Dr.C Pedro Pablo Rodríguez, according to Cubarte.

In turn, the 2023 Annual Prize for Cultural Research, which is awarded by competition for the most relevant research results of the year, was received by the following works, taking into account the quality, scientific rigor, social impact, and novelty of the research results:

Bibliography of Armando Hart Dávalos 1930-2017, by authors Dr.C Eloísa M. Carreras and Dr.C Araceli García Carranza; Revolutionary ideology in the workplace. A look from the industrial sector (1961-1965), by Luis Emilio Aybar, and Silences and receptions: the novel of José Martí, by Dr. Mauricio Núñez.

The jury also agreed on three mentions for Life must be defended, by Jaime Gómez and Ana Niria Albo; Radio debate in Cuba, by María de La Caridad Duranza and Mario Masvidal, and Audiences and Cultural Centers. A national study, by Yisel Rivero, Pedro Emilio Moras, and Honey Piedra.
