Outstanding former Cuban volleyball player Mireya Luis Hernández was ratified as executive vice president of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), achieving the highest vote count for this position in the term that will extend until 2028.
Luis Hernández, a legend of world volleyball, has been recognized not only for her athletic career, but also for her work in international organizations.
The triple Olympic gold medalist, who led Cuba in the Olympic Games of Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, and Sydney 2000, has left an indelible mark on the sport.
In addition to her Olympic achievements, Mireya was instrumental in Cuba's triumphs at the World Championships of 1994 and 1998, the World Cups of 1989, 1991, and 1995, as well as the Grand Prix of 1993 and 2000. Her outstanding career led her to become part of the Athletes' Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Commission of Olympic Solidarity.
In recognition of her legacy and contribution to sport, Mireya Luis Hernández also received Dominican privileged nationality, an honor that highlights her merits at the world and continental level.
