Leinier Domínguez's vibrant performance in Berlin earned him a rise of two positions in the world ranking and reaffirmed him, among men, as the Cuban chess player -whether emigrated or representing the island- best positioned in the FIDE ranking.
Behind Leinier, the other Caribbean players who exceed the 2600 barrier compete under other flags, after their glorious past in the Greater Antilles: Neuris Delgado and Lázaro Bruzón.
In the case of the Grand Master who plays for the United States, he experienced an emotional tournament in the previous month's Grand Prix, an event in which he reached the semifinals, and he woke up on March 1st in position 13, thanks to his 2756 ELO points.
The Idol of Güines gained 3.8 units as a result of the tournament and moved from the February 15th position to the current one, thanks to his performance in the 8 games that counted for this occasion.
After Leinier comes Neuris Delgado (Paraguay), who has 2622 and ranks as 154th among the active players in the world, thanks to accumulating 6.5 units across two tournaments: VIII Floripa Chess Open 2022 and V Montevideo Open Marcel Duchamp Cup 2022.
Following them is Lázaro Bruzón, also for the United States, thanks to his 2618 ELO, valid for the 168th position globally, although with no games to add to the March ranking. Yuniesky Quesada, for the same country, has 2589.
In the FIDE ranking, among those representing Cuba, Yasser Quesada has 2568, and he is followed by Carlos Albornoz with 2563 and Isán Ortiz (2531).
