Héctor Lombard is Champion in Bellator, champion in Bare Knuckle, champion of Eagle FC? That is the goal of Héctor Lombard, a true legend of combat sports who returns to mixed martial arts after a successful foray into bare knuckle boxing.
The 44-year-old Cuban warrior signed a contract with the new company of Khabib Nurmagomedov to continue his career and attempt to add another title to an impressive record that began in his native island, as one of the best exponents of judo in the Olympic Games.
"This means a lot to me because it's a promotion I've never fought in, and I've fought in many, it's a new adventure I have," Lombard commented just as the deal was announced. "I came to make a mark again and I'm going to prove it."
Known for his fierce fighting style and truly impressive power, Lombard was one of the first major stars of Bellator MMA after he dominated the middleweight division with a series of knockouts that are still remembered.
Upon leaving that mixed martial arts circuit, Lombard left with a record of 8-0 with seven knockouts and only one fight that went to a decision, which earned him a contract with the UFC, where he achieved victories over Rousimar Palhares, Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields.
His most recent chapter was in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, where he fought bare-fisted while accumulating a record of 3-1 and winning the cruiserweight title with a victory over fellow UFC veteran Joe Riggs.
His goal now is the belt in Eagle FC.
"That's the plan," added Lombard, who could make his debut soon in Miami. "For now I can't give many details, but yes one of the main reasons for signing is that they are located here, I said that I had to fight here."
Now Lombard joins the roster of the company headed by Nurmagomedov, which has had strong momentum in the United States after the promotion's debut in January. Eagle FC 46 will be this Friday night from Miami with Kevin Lee and Diego Sánchez in the main event.
In any case, Lombard — 44 years old — could step into the cage in May, when the promotion has its next card scheduled.
"I still feel strong, quick, I feel good, I feel in shape," Lombard emphasized. "As long as I feel good, I'm going to keep fighting. When I see that my body won't allow it, I'll retire."
