The Cuban documentary "Leonardo Padura, a Squalid and Moving Story," by journalist Náyare Menoyo, was presented yesterday on the third day of the Trieste Latin American Film Festival, Italy, along with other films from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico.
In the Cinema and Literature section, the documentary, with an approximate duration of 41 minutes, shows the life and work of the prominent Cuban writer and journalist, Leonardo Padura, and will represent Cuba in this 35th edition of the event.
In the same section, "De noche vienes, Esmeralda" (Mexico), by Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, and "Amores Ilícitos" (Colombia), by Heriberto Fiorillo, will also be presented.
"Emilia" (Argentina), by César Sodero; "La botera" (Argentina), by Sabrina Blanco; "La fiesta silenciosa" (Argentina/Brazil), by Diego Fried and Federico Finkielstain; and "Ainda temos a inmensidao da noite" (Brazil), by Gustavo Galvao, are the films in the Official Competition section being exhibited for the first time at the event.
In the Contemporary Competition section, "Pueblo chico invierno grande" (Argentina), by Gabriel Otero, will be screened, as well as the documentaries "Los Modernos" (Argentina), by Guillermo de Carli; and "Quién mató a mi hermano" (Argentina), by Ana Fraile and Lucas Scavino.
Meanwhile, in the Contemporary Latin American World section, the documentaries "El poder en la mirada" (Mexico), by José Ramón Mikelajaúregui, and "Un país de caricatura. La caricatura mexicana del siglo XIX" (Mexico), by Armando Casas, will be presented.
The annual film festival, founded in 1985 in the northeastern Italian city of Trieste, will run until November 15 in virtual format due to restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
