Ramón Labañino participated in a virtual presentation here of his book Man of Silence, a prison diary.
The text was presented in a live forum on social networks, in which Labañino recounted part of those difficult 16 years he spent in United States prisons alongside his companions René González, Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando González, all members of the Wasp Network.
From Havana, Ramón sent a greeting to the Argentine Solidarity Movement that joined the cause for the release of The Five, as they are known in the world, and emphasized that in this fight that humanity is waging against Covid-19, his country will always put its best at the service of the world.
In delving into the book, presented by editor Fernando Roperto, of Acercándonos Ediciones, Labañino described it as a diary in the tone of a novel full of the love of five men for their homeland.
Labañino described that in its more than 200 pages, spanning from when they entered prison in 1998 until that historic December 17, 2014 when they returned to Cuba, there are hard moments, of survival, but of love and solidarity that they received.
During the dialogue, he recalled that when he and his companions in the cause were imprisoned they had a very firm idea that kept them vital: love of country, above all else because there can be no more beautiful work than saving the lives of innocent beings as our Cuban doctors are doing today in the world.
At another point, Labañino emphasized that if his brothers in struggle and he had to do everything all over again, they would, because the most beautiful mission they fulfilled is defending their people from aggressions and terrorism.
This presentation joins a day of greetings for July 26, the book was chosen for its presentation because it also speaks of solidarity.
