The prominent journalist Pedro de la Hoz González was presented with the International Casa del Caribe award for his meritorious work on the cultural page of the newspaper Granma and for his commitment, from the Aponte commission, in the fight against all manifestations of racism in Cuba.

At the inaugural gala of the 41st edition of the Caribbean Festival, which took place at the Heredia theater, journalist and writer Reinaldo Cedeño presented the award to De la Hoz González.

In his remarks, titled Praise for a Renaissance Man, he noted that "right there, in Cienfuegos, at some point in our era, Pedro de la Hoz González was born" and referred to his initial piano studies, his interest in physics, his poems, his journalistic adventures at 5 de Septiembre –the newspaper of his native city–, at Vanguardia and the cultural supplement Huellas de Santa Clara.

He highlighted his long tenure in the cultural section of the newspaper Granma –guided by the wise hand of Marta Rojas–, his books about the African imprint in our identity, about the mark of the Aymara president, in Evo's Bolivia and the Che's; his dialogues with the most important figures of Cuban culture. "Pedro is a man of the Renaissance, born in the twentieth century.

His multifaceted trajectory leaves no doubt," and he alluded to "his extensive practice of judgment, without tribute to eventism, but weaving in the very warp of the nation." De la Hoz received the award from the hands of Orlando Vergés, director of Casa del Caribe, and thanked the Caribbean cultural institution for the gesture.
