Singer Yotuel Romero and his wife, also performer Beatriz Luengo, have partnered with a production company to create a documentary feature film about the song "Patria y Vida," which will bear the same name.

The documentary will explore how the song, which at the recent Latin Grammy Awards won the award for song of the year, exemplifies how "music has been a catalyst for change throughout modern history."
"When we see the impact our song has had on the Cuban people and around the world, we feel privileged to be able to use our platform to tell Cuba's story and give a voice to a community that is oppressed so frequently," say Luengo and Romero in a statement, who were among the composers of the song.

Produced by Asiel Babastro, the song "Patria y Vida" is performed by Yotuel Romero, Descember Bueno, Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom, who form Gente de Zona, and rappers "El Funky" and "El Osorbo".

On November 18th in Las Vegas it also received the urban song award for 2021.

"We at Exile believe in creating content that inspires Latin Americans to take action to create social change in the world," said Daniel Eilemberg, president of content at the production company in a statement.

"The documentary will explore how the song, whose title contrasts with the Patria o Muerte slogan of the Cuban revolution in the 1950s, unleashed a movement that the Cuban government is trying to suppress, and investigates how music has been a catalyst for social change in modern history," the text adds.

"When we see the impact our song has had in Cuba and around the world, we feel privileged to be able to use our platform to tell Cuba's story and give a voice to a community that is frequently oppressed," Romero and Luengo said in the statement, who is a Spanish singer.

The rap Patria y Vida became Song of the Year and Best Urban Song at the Latin Grammy Awards presented last week in Las Vegas.
