Cuba's National Prize for Literature recipient, Nancy Morejón, has arrived in Libreville, invited by academic and cultural centers in the Central African country.
The Cuban poet, essayist, and translator will develop an extensive program that includes her participation in the First Academic-Cultural Days Cuba–Gabon, which will take place there from January 21 to 24.
According to a note from the Cuban embassy in Gabon, the work of the intellectual from the largest archipelago of the Antilles is widely known in Gabonese academic circles and other neighboring French-speaking countries, especially among professors and university students in fields related to social sciences, the Spanish language, and art history.
Her work—the note emphasizes—is studied for its continuous reflections on the influence of African heritage in the processes of Latin American identity formation, especially Cuban identity.
On the other hand, the text recalls that Nancy also has extensive work in translating major literary works written in French into Spanish, and vice versa, which makes her a reference for French-speaking professionals and students dedicated to the teaching and study of the Spanish language.
During her visit to Gabon, Nancy and the delegation accompanying her will visit several centers of historical-cultural interest in the country, and will hold exchanges with communities of indigenous peoples and traditional art museums.
The First Academic-Cultural Days Cuba–Gabon has among its objectives building new bridges of relation and cooperation between institutions of both nations, united and proud of their historical ties, the information finally emphasizes.
