The Cuban trovador Pablo Milanés received the Gramola de Oro award last June 6th in Madrid, a distinction of great importance in Spanish music.
Milanés shared the award with his compatriot Pancho Céspedes and the Mexican trio Los Tres Reyes in a ceremony held at the Apolo theater in the Spanish capital as part of the international bolero festival.
His daughter, Haydée Milanés, also participated in the presentation of the distinction, with whom he recorded the album Amor last year.
The Gramola de Oro has previously been received by figures such as Armando Manzanero and Alberto Cortez, among others, who inaugurated last year the first edition of this festival that takes place annually in Madrid.
Pablo Milanés has been honored on several occasions in Spain, where he has maintained his residence for several years in the community of Galicia.
In 2017 he obtained the La Mar de Músicas award for "having written some of the most beautiful love songs in the world," according to the jury that distinguished him.
Pablo Milanés, 75 years old, was born in the eastern city of Bayamo in 1943 and is one of the great references of Cuban music. A few days ago the collection with all his discography, published by the Bis Music label, won the National Design Prize in Cuba.
His discography includes more than 40 albums, among which are Versos sencillos de José Martí, Canta a Nicolás Guillén, La vida no vale nada, No me pidas and El guerrero.
