The list of nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards has recently been announced. The nominations from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States are led this year by female artists, and two Cubans have qualified for the race for the award. Omara Portuondo with her album "VIDA," and Cimafunk for the concert "Todo Colores," along with Ibrahim Maalouf and Tank and the Bangas.
It is not until February 4, 2024 that the winners will be announced at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, a venue that is hosting for the 21st time one of the most important events in the music industry.
"VIDA," by Omara Portuondo, competes in the Best Latin Tropical Album category with "Voy a ti," by Luis Figueroa; "Niche sinfónico," by Grupo Niche and Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia; "MIMY & TONY," by Tony Succar and Mimy Succar, and "Escalona nunca se había grabado así," by Carlos Vives.
For its part, Cimafunk appears in the Best Global Music Performance section alongside "Shadow Forces," by Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer and Shahzad Ismaily; "Alone," by Burna Boy; "FEEL," by Davido; "Milagro y desastre," by Silvana Estrada; "Abundance In Millets," by Falu and Gaurav Shah (with PM Narendra Modi), and "Pashto," by Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Zakir Hussain with Rakesh Chaurasia.
Female voices stand out in almost all major categories. In Song of the Year we find only one song performed by a man, Butterfly by Jon Batiste. Along with him, Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish will compete for this award. These seven artists are the ones that repeat the most in the categories.
Taylor Swift, SZA and Olivia Rodrigo are the most nominated thanks to their albums Midnights, SOS and GUTS.
In the 66th edition of the Grammy Awards, Taylor Swift breaks records, becoming the most nominated artist in history in the Best Song of the Year category thanks to Anti-Hero; also tying Barbra Streissand as the most nominated artist for Best Album of the awards.
