The Diva of Buena Vista Social Club, Omara Portuondo, continues her luxury tour through United States cities–which began in Chicago on October 14–, following eight successful performances.
The journey is being made with a lot of love and affection, assured her representative, Ariel Jiménez Portuondo.
The reception from the Latino and American public is very warm when performances still remain in Pittsburgh, Minneapolis and two in New Jersey, he commented.
The renowned singer turned 93 years old on October 29 with a concert in Seattle and three days later she performed in Cleveland, a city that recognized her artistic trajectory as a legendary vocalist.
Omara is very well known in the United States, a country where she rose to prominence in the 1940s and 1950s of the last century, specified Jiménez Portuondo, also son of the romantic feeling's muse.
The tour promotes her album Vida, recorded during the pandemic, which features collaborators of the caliber of Gaby Moreno–also musical producer of the recording–, Susana Vargas, Natalia Lafourcade, Rubén Blades, Carlos Rivera, Amaury Pérez and Alexander Abreu, in addition to Andy Montañez.
Vida is nominated for the Grammy Award in the Best Tropical Album category, a recognition that came after a complex recording process.
Omara's voice was recorded almost entirely in her home in Havana during the pandemic with the support of sound engineer Orestes Águila, explained her representative.
The result of that work is also in the tour in the United States that already had stops in addition in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Traverse, Michigan; Santa Fe, New Mexico; Seattle, in the state of Washington; Cleveland, in Ohio; and New York.
Very talented Cuban musicians also accompany us such as Ramcés Rodríguez on percussion, Degni Bofill on minor percussion and José Portillo on piano, he commented.
Several decades on stage have earned her recognitions such as the National Music Prize in 2006, the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts from Spain's Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Songlines Pioneer award, and the Musical Excellence Prize from the Latin Recording Academy.
Additionally, she stands out with a Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Tropical Album, and another for her career trajectory in 2009.
