Last Friday, May 28th, Omara Portuondo's most recent music video premiered, this time alongside Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno. Bolero a la vida is the title of the second single that previews the Cuban singer's new album and has been recorded almost entirely during the current pandemic.
The song, created by Gaby in remote collaboration with Santiago Larramendi, is a resounding bolero, ideal for kindling hope and new beginnings, a message of optimism in such difficult times for humanity.
The audiovisual, directed by Joseph Ros, was filmed in Havana and Los Angeles, and produced by the Cuban Institute of Music, the National Center of Popular Music, RTV Comercial and Ariel Jiménez Portuondo. Starting from the phrase "you hit bottom and start over," the young but highly acclaimed filmmaker built a visual poetry where water is metaphor, unifying element and reference to the origin of life.
The representation of time, moments of Omara with her granddaughter Rossio and the striking beauty of the underwater shots are key to the effectiveness of this material.
The new album by the legendary Cuban singer reserves collaborations with artists of the caliber of Dionne Warwick, Raphael, Rubén Blades and Susana Baca, among others.
