Cuban Paralympic athlete Omara Durand has been officially nominated to be part of the new Athletes' Council of the International Paralympic Committee during Paris 2024.
According to JIT, Durand's inclusion on the list of candidates "is another recognition of her trajectory and commitment to Paralympic sport."
This year, the number of candidates aspiring to be part of the IPC Athletes' Council has reached a historic record with 26 candidates, surpassing the 22 who participated in the voting of previous editions in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020, the source clarifies.
Voting will take place from August 26 to September 5 in the event's accommodation village, and the results will be announced at the closing ceremony.
Omara Durand, recognized as the universal queen of the 100, 200 and 400 meters in the T12 category, expressed her pride and gratitude for being considered again for this prestigious role.
"It would be a great honor to be selected for the second time as a member of the IPC Athletes' Council," she declared to JIT.
Durand was already part of the Council elected during the Tokyo 2020 Games, an experience that, according to her, allowed her to grow both personally and professionally.
