Omara Durand won her third gold medal in Paris and adds 11 Paralympic titles

Cuban sprinter Omara Durand Elías made history again last Saturday by completing her participation in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with a new gold medal, her third, obtained this time in the final of the 200 meters, T12 category, alongside her guide Yunior Kindelán Vargas.

With this victory, the athlete from Santiago adds 11 titles, which consolidates her as a legend of Paralympic sports at the global level.

Durand not only prevailed in the 200 meters, where she clocked a time of 23.62 seconds, but also took the titles in the 100 and 400 meters of her class, once again demonstrating her absolute dominance on the track.

This feat in Paris repeats her achievements from the previous editions, in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021, where she also conquered three titles in each one.

At 32 years old, the Cuban says goodbye to the track in a triumphant manner, leaving an indelible legacy in Paralympic athletics.

Her name is already inscribed in golden letters in the history of Olympism, not only for her impressive records and victories, but also for the inspiration she has provided to millions of people around the world.

Omara Durand, known as the "queen of the track," has been a reference not only for athletes with disabilities, but for all Cuban sports.

Her dedication, perseverance and talent have made her one of the greatest figures in Paralympic sports at the international level.

With her eleventh title, Omara makes clear that she is one of the best Paralympic athletes of all time, a source of pride for Cuba and an example for future generations.

As of the closing of this note, the Cuban delegation is ranked 23rd in the Paralympic medal count, after having garnered six gold medals and three silver and one gold, for a total of ten medals.
