Cimafunk, one of the most popular Cuban musicians at the moment, offered a unique concert in London last Friday, in benefit of a charitable organization.

Cimafunk and his accompanying band arrived in London from the United States, where in recent weeks they offered massive concerts in Central Park and Madison Square Garden in New York, and in other North American cities, and rubbed shoulders with artists of the caliber of La India and Alejandro Sanz.

The debut in the United Kingdom of the young revelation, whose successful mix of funk with Afro-Cuban rhythms catapulted him to fame in just one year, not only in Cuba but on other international stages, was at The Conduit, in the exclusive neighborhood of Mayfair, under the sponsorship of Grassroot Soccer.

Prior to last Friday's concert, Cimafunk and his musicians visited the Cuban embassy in London, where they spent time with the staff of the Caribbean island's state mission and performed some of the songs that made them famous, including La Paciente and Me voy.

Erick Iglesias, the artist's real name, confessed to being surprised by the success achieved in such a short time, although he assures that success has not gone to his head, according to Prensa Latina.

I am very clear about where I come from, the artist asserted, whose music, he states, is nourished by funk, afrobeat, but without losing its Afro-Cuban roots.

I did an exploratory journey but the base is Afro-Cuban, the clave always comes out of me, Cimafunk added, for whom the fact of not knowing how to read or write music is not a problem, since he "hums the rhythms I have in my head to my musicians."

Furthermore, he considers that his main objective is to be happy and transmit that happiness to the people who dedicate part of their time to listening to him.

Recommended by Billboard magazine as one of the artists to follow in 2019, the musician barely 30 years old has not let down the American publication, and this is attested to by his recent concerts in the United States and the agenda he has for the rest of the year.

From London we will return to Cuba, but next October we will be at the Barcelona jazz festival and in November we return to the United States, Cimafunk pointed out, who will then take a break to prepare his next album.
