The prominent Cuban poet Carilda Oliver Labra will have a sculpture at the Bayamo Wax Museum starting next July 26, alongside other prestigious personalities from Cuban and international history and culture.
The statue, modeled in polychrome wax, will be the 22nd in the museum and will be created by Rafael Barrios Madrigal and his sons Leander and Rafael, who live in the mountainous municipality of Guisa.
In it, Carilda will appear standing, simulating as if she were reciting one of her texts, as explained by Ysmary López Comas, director of the institution.
According to López Comas, the clothing and other objects that the sculpture will have will be specially donated by her widower, Raidel Hernández Fernández, and other relatives of the prestigious writer.
Rafael Barrios explained that he and his sons are proud to undertake this work, for which they will use about 30 kilograms of wax.
Carilda Oliver Labra, National Literature Prize recipient and one of the most outstanding poets of Cuba and Hispanic America, passed away in August of last year, and Cubans and particularly those from Matanzas are grateful for her extensive life dedicated to poetry.
