Cuban sports mourns the death of Roberto Hernández, Olympic silver medalist in Barcelona-1992. Known by his friends and teammates as Angola, he was champion in the 400 meters and in the 4x400 relay at the Barcelona-1989 World Cup, and also holds the national record for the oval lap, with 44.14 seconds.
He won the world bronze in Rome-1987 in the 4x400 relay, with which he set a national record of 2:59.16 minutes.
Among his great seasons stands out that of 1990, when he achieved, from May to November, 17 of a total of 51 races under 45 seconds, with prominence for the gold in the Goodwill Games in Seattle (44.79 seconds) and the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Mexico (44.84 seconds), Prensa Latina reported.
The death of the distinguished athlete, born in the municipality of Florida, in Camagüey, who was hospitalized, occurred this Monday, months after a stroke, whose complications eventually deteriorated his health.
