Ismael Sene Alegret dies, historian and chronicler of Cuban baseball

The historian and chronicler of Cuban baseball Ismael Sené Alegret passed away on Saturday, January 20 in the morning in Havana, reported the Cuban press. Sené was 82 years old and suffered from heart failure.

Sené is considered one of the leading authorities on the historical topics of Cuban baseball and was popular among fans on the Island. For several years he participated in programs on Cuban state television Béisbol de siempre and Bola viva.

Born in Regla, Havana, in 1937, Sené was a professional member of the Union of Communist Youth (UJC), worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the Ministry of Interior. He retired in 1993 and devoted himself to baseball since then.

Since 1997 he was a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

He was president of the National Council Martiano Béisbol de Siempre since its founding, and also presided over the Selection Committee of Cuba's Hall of Fame. This year he will be officially inducted into the Palmar de Junco Hall of Fame in a ceremony that will take place on February 6.

He wrote the book "Desde el césped de mi estadio", published by Ediciones Loynaz in its El Fausto collection.
