Cuban actress Yolandita Ruiz dies in Spain

In the early hours of Tuesday, October 1st, renowned Cuban actress Yolandita Ruiz passed away in the city of Madrid, Spain.

According to sources close to the 63-year-old actress, she had suffered for several years battling cancer, an illness that gradually consumed her health until she passed away during her stay in a hospital in the Spanish capital.

This was reported by several family members and friends through their social networks, who mourned the passing of an admirable woman who stood out for her extraordinary acting career through Cuban television in the 1970s and 1980s.

After two decades of successes and glory in her native Cuba, where she also distinguished herself in important theatrical presentations such as "Una casa Colonial," Yolandita emigrated to Venezuela in the late 1990s, where she offered her knowledge as an acting professor at the Centro de Formación Integral del Artista in Caracas.

After eight years of intense work in the Venezuelan capital, Ruiz set her course toward European lands and, after living for a year in Italy offering Spanish Phonetics workshops, decided to settle in Spain in 2005 where she worked not only as an actress, but also as an acting professor in institutions such as the Asociación Cultural Abierto por Obra and stood out as a director.

Many Cubans remember her for her brilliant artistic performance reflected in each of the characters she portrayed, standing out for her performance in productions such as: El alma encantada in 1976; Ramona in 1978; in the series Juan Quinquín made in 1981; and in the films Retrato de Teresa and Madagascar, in 1979 and 1994 respectively.

Numerous national and international artists have expressed themselves through social networks mourning the death of this renowned Cuban actress; among them are actor Roberto San Martín, producer Yin Pedraza Ginori, Cuban actor Gerardo Reverón, among others.
