Camilo Guevara March, son of Argentine-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara, died Monday in Caracas at age 60 from pulmonary thromboembolism, confirmed Tuesday by Cuba's president, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

"With deep sorrow we say goodbye to Camilo, son of Che and promoter of his ideas," the leader said on his Twitter account.

According to the Prensa Latina agency, Guevara March was visiting Caracas and died "as a result of a pulmonary thromboembolism that led to a heart attack." Camilo Guevara was one of four children the Argentine revolutionary had with Cuban Aleida March, along with Aleida, Celia, and Ernesto. Guevara had another daughter, Hilda, now deceased, from his previous marriage to Peruvian Hilda Gadea.

Camilo was Che Guevara's eldest son, born in 1962. Little is known about his life, but in 2018 he attended the 'Che Photographer' exhibition in Argentina, featuring images from the Che Studies Center in Havana that he himself directed. For his part, he maintained a relationship with Suylén Milanés, who recently passed away and was the daughter of Pablo Milanés, with whom he had a daughter, Camila.

Camilo was a graduate in labor law and served as director of the Che Guevara Studies Center in Havana, an institution dedicated to perpetuating his father's work and thought.
