Journalist Fritz Suárez Silva, remembered by some for his international commentary on Cuban television newscasts, died in Havana where he was being treated for health complications.
Suárez Silva spent the last decade of his life practically forgotten in the remote municipality of Chambas, in the province of Ciego de Ávila, where he was from.
On this day, reporters from the Cuban press recall the professional who had a very particular phrase to end his international commentary where he explained "the conflicts" that affected the world.
Suárez Silva would say "así las cosas" (thus things are), to show a chaotic panorama outside the island.
The news of the death of the forgotten journalist was made public by Vivian Espino Hernández, director of Radio Chambas, who communicated with the family that was caring for him at this time, confirmed some reporters from Ciego de Ávila.
"The well-known journalist Fritz Suárez Silva, who worked for many years on Cuban Television News, died a few hours ago in Havana. Suárez Silva was a native of the Avilean municipality of Chambas, where he remained in recent years, until he moved again to the country's capital where he received specialized care. As a journalist he was a recognized professional in international affairs. Family members confirmed in recent hours the death of Fritz Suárez. Our deepest condolences to his family," confirmed local journalist Leonel Iparraguirre González, on his Facebook profile.
Fritz Suárez Silva's daughter, Maray Suárez, worked until the coronavirus pandemic for the Cuban Television Information System but now has a Facebook page where she presents herself as an "emotional coach" from Miami, with presence on other platforms.
Maray calls herself a "happiness trainer" and warns from Miami that everyone "can create a new life for themselves regardless of the moment or age they are at."
