Tony Oliva, Member of Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, Arrives in Cuba

The former U.S. Major League player and member of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame Tony Oliva arrived in Cuba last night where he was greeted by the president of the Cuban Baseball Federation, Juan Reinaldo Pérez.

A post on the governing body's X account for that sport on the island confirms the visit, of a family nature, according to the message, of the baseball player who played for 15 seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization in MLB.

"The president of @CubanaBeisbol, @JuanReinaldoPer, greeted Tony Oliva today upon his arrival in #Cuba, on a family visit. The MLB Hall of Fame member will be in his native Consolación del Sur, Pinar del Río, and Havana," the message on the aforementioned digital social network reports.

Oliva was inducted in December 2021 to the Major League Hall of Fame, the historic temple of world baseball where the plaques of eight Cubans appear.

During his career he deserved the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1964, was a Gold Glove winner, won three batting titles and was selected to eight All-Star games of the Big Leagues.

The stellar ballplayer, born on July 20, 1938 in the western Cuban province of Pinar del Río, left an offensive line of .304/.353/.476 during 15 seasons in the Big Leagues, in which he hit 220 home runs and drove in 947 runs.
