The talented Cuban baseball player Lionard Kindelán, son of the once-stellar Santiago slugger Orestes Kindelán, will return to professional baseball soon, reports Swing Completo.
The infielder will join the Samanes de Aragua team, with which he signed an agreement to participate in the 2022 season of the Major League of Professional Baseball of Venezuela (LMBP), as one of the team's foreign reinforcements, which announced the news on its Twitter profile.
"In the Line-up will be the heir of the 'Kindelán Dynasty' in the Cuban National Series; the slugger Lionard Kindelán," can be read in the social media post.
The Aragua team will also count in its ranks, along with the roster of Venezuelan baseball players, Dominican pitcher Alexis Candelario and also Nicaraguan pitcher Carlos Teller, while a fourth foreign player remains to be chosen. All must report to the team on May 1st, the date when preseason training will begin.
Lionard participated in three seasons with the Avispas of Santiago de Cuba in the National Series, in which he batted .201 (134-27), including three doubles and four home runs as extra bases, 15 RBIs and 18 runs scored, in addition to an offensive line of .365/.313/.678 (OBP/SLG/OPS). As a first base defender, mainly, although he also plays catcher, he left a fielding average of .984, with six errors in 366 chances.
He left Cuba legally in 2018 to the Dominican Republic, in search of a contract in professional baseball, to try to reach the Major Leagues, something he did not achieve, having to travel to Europe to play in the Italian Professional League, in which he participated with the UnipolSai Fortitudo team for just four games, with modest performance.
Since then, little or nothing had been known about the talented 25-year-old Santiago slugger, who has not yet convinced the Major League scouts, largely due to his lack of versatility and touch, although no one doubts that he possesses great power with the bat, even becoming home run leader of a National Under 23 Championship.
The 2022 LMBP season will begin on May 12th and will feature eight teams: Guerreros del Caribe, Centauros de La Guaira, Senadores de Caracas, Delfines de La Guaira, Caciques de Distrito, Marineros de Carabobo, Líderes de Miranda and Samanes de Aragua.
The regular season will consist of 42 games per team, at the rate of six matchups against each of the remaining seven rivals. The top four will qualify for the cross semifinals, from which the two teams that will compete for the title will emerge.
The draft to select the players that will make up the different rosters will take place this Wednesday, April 20th starting at 5:00 pm, as reported on the official profile of
Lionard Kindelán's return to professional baseball in this year 2022 coincides with his father Orestes Kindelán's return to his managerial position (after managing the Avispas in Series 57), this time in the Division 1 of France with the Templarios de Senart.
