The National Council of Visual Arts (CNAP) hosted the jury in charge of awarding the National Prize for Visual Arts, the highest award in the field of visual arts granted in our country.
After the deliberation process, the recognition was granted to painter, draftsperson, and engraver Lesbia Vent Dumois, who currently serves as President of the Visual Arts Section of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac).
Lesbia is a member of the International Association of Visual Artists (AIAP), has practiced teaching, curation, and art criticism, exhibited in significant competitions within and outside Cuba, and obtained several important recognitions, among which are the First Prize in the Latin American Xylography Competition in Argentina (1960), Honorable Mention in the First Latin American Engraving Competition in Havana (1962), the Acquisition Prize at the International Engraving Biennial in Krakow (1972), and the National Curation Prize (2000).
It is worth noting that this year, the award is being given to a woman, following the extensive list of male names that have received it since its first edition in 1994. Let this award serve to congratulate the sustained creative, educational, critical, and curatorial work that Lesbia Vent Dumois has carried out throughout much of her life. Congratulations!
