The strongest chess tournament ever held in Israel resulted in victory for veteran local Boris Gelfand, who finished tied at the top with Cuban-American Leinier Domínguez but surpassed him by the tiebreak system used.
The Idol of Güines conducted the white pieces in today's round precisely versus Gelfand, but after just 14 moves of a Sicilian Defense both agreed to draw.
Thus, the two finished with 5.5 points out of nine possible, but the Sonneborn-Berger gave 24.00 units to the Israeli compared to 23.25 to the native of the Greater Antilles.
From the 13th to the 21st of this month, Leinier will be participating in the renowned Dortmund Tournament alongside several players from the elite club.
