Latin Grammy pays tribute to Cubans Celia Cruz and Gloria Estefan at the 'Ellas y su música' event

In an unprecedented show, hosted by Thalía, Becky G and Luis Fonsi, the Latin Recording Academy paid tribute to Cuban singers Celia Cruz and Gloria Estefan, as well as to Spanish Rocío Durcal and American of Mexican origin Vicki Carr, reported Univision.

The event, called "Ellas y su música", aimed to celebrate the influence of women in the music industry, so they held emotional tributes to the aforementioned artists, in which the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, participated by sending a thank you message.

American of Mexican origin Becky G presented the tribute to Gloria Estefan, in which Leslie Grace participated, performing "Get On Your Feet", Kany García, who sang the song "Hoy" and Ximena Sariñana, who performed "Mi Tierra". Finally, Estefan herself appeared, who sang and danced her popular song "Conga".

Yuri, for her part, began the tribute to Celia Cruz by singing the song "Carnaval", later La India appeared to perform "Quimbara" and Ednita Nazario was responsible for presenting the song "Yo viviré".

The tribute to Rocío Durcal began with the performance of "Costumbres" by Cuban Aymée Nuviola and "Nadie como tú", in the voice of Mexican Lila Downs. The closing consisted of a video of her singing "Amor Eterno", to which her daughter Shaila joined, visibly moved.

Next appeared Nella, Paula Arenas and Olga Tañón, who sang the song "Son cosas del amor", by Vicki Carr. The singer-songwriter, who was present at the event, thanked the tribute and moved the attendees to their feet after singing live again after four years away from the stage.

The artists Thalía and Becky G also had time to perform some of their songs, as was the case with "Mojito", "Piel Morena", "Amor a la Mexicana" and "Arrasando", by the first, while the second performed a cover of "Diva del Bronx", by Jennifer López, in addition to her hits "Mayores" and "Sin Pijama".

Luis Fonsi, for his part, took the opportunity to speak out against gender-based violence.
