The Last Supper, Cuban film by Titón, joins section of the Venice Film Festival

The Cuban film The Last Supper (1976), by filmmaker Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, will be included in the Classics Out of Competition section of the 78th Venice International Film Festival, which will take place from September 1st to 11, 2021, highlighted by critic Luciano Castillo.

In the text published on the Cubacine website, the essayist said that the film will be shown at the Piccolo Arsenale Theater, along with 13 other restored feature films of great significance in the seventh art.

From the selection, Seduced and Abandoned (Pietro Germi, 1964), You Only Live Once (Fritz Lang, 1937), Story of a Love Affair (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1950), The Rickshaw Man (Hiroshi Inagaki, 1958) and End of Season (Zoltán Fabri, 1966) stand out.

The exhibition is completed by The Red Circle (Jean-Pierre Melville, 1970), Serpico (Sidney Lumet, 1973), Claudine (John Berry, 1974); The Young Girl (Souleymane Cissé, 1975), An Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano (Nikita Mikhalkov, 1977), Vengeance Is Mine (Shohei Imamura, 1979) and Goodfellas (Martin Scorsese, 1990).

According to Castillo's explanation, The Last Supper achieved its restoration through an agreement between the Cinemateca de Cuba and the archive of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, United States.
