The Orquesta Aragón, from Cuba, which since 1939 until today has gotten millions of followers dancing, performed a concert at a packed theater at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, in the Bronx of New York.
The audience enjoyed the eve of traditional Cuban music at the rhythm of one of the most recognized and emblematic groups of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, reported on his Facebook profile the first vice minister of Foreign Relations of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver.
The Aragón, directed by maestro Rafael Lay (son), performed songs from their last two albums, "Icono" and "Cha cha chá: homenaje a lo tradicional", with which they won the Latin Grammy in 2020 and 2021, in the category of Best Traditional Tropical Album.
Classics did not fail to appear such as "Pare cochero", "Pregúntame cómo estoy", "El paso de Encarnación", "Bruca Maniguá" and "Siboney", songs that their followers always request during performances according to what Lay has publicly confessed.
In this way the Aragón, one of the jewels of Cuban music, returned to the city of New York after six years of not reuniting with the local audience.
After several performances in the United States included in their "Icono Tour" tour, the Aragón will travel with their music to Dominican Republic and Colombia, and will continue to Europe and other latitudes.
With a discography that surpasses 100 albums, the band has earned a well-deserved place in the Hall of Fame of Latin Music both in New York (1999) and in Las Vegas (2012).
In 2005, the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (Unesco) declared it a Heritage of Humanity, and awarded it the Pablo Picasso Medal.
