Jorge Perugorría, Ana de Armas and María Isabel Díaz, among Latin American actors recognized by Academia de Cine de España

The Film Academy awards the Gold Medal to Latin American actors and actresses who are part of Spanish cinema

Represented by Argentine Cecilia Roth and Cuban Jorge Perugorría, they will be honored this month of April.

The Board of Directors of the institution has decided to grant this recognition to all Latin American actors and actresses who form a fundamental part of many of the most unforgettable films of our cinema.

In total, seven Cuban actors have received this award because their art has contributed to Spanish cinema. Jorge Perugorría leads the list of award winners and also includes Ana de Armas, Mirtha Ibarra, María Isabel Díaz, Ileana Wilson, Luis Alberto García and Vladimir Cruz.

The large group of Latin American actors and actresses who with their performances have contributed to Spanish cinema has been recognized with the Gold Medal of the Film Academy, an award that is given to them for "enriching our cinematography with their talent, and being a mirror for many Spanish actors and actresses in which to look at themselves", emphasized the Board of Directors of the institution.

Represented by Argentine Cecilia Roth and Cuban Jorge Perugorría, this collective that, with their different accents and different cultures, is part of the Spanish cinema community, will receive the tribute of the Film Academy in the month of April.

From Arrebato to Pain and Glory, Cecilia Roth has a close relationship with Spain and its cinema. Her talent is evidenced by her two Goya Awards for Best Leading Actress for Martín (Hache), by Adolfo Aristarain, and All About My Mother, by Pedro Almodóvar, with whom she has worked on eight occasions since her first film, Pepi, Luci Boom and Other Girls Like Mom.

She is the most international face of Cuban cinema and the unforgettable co-star of Strawberry and Chocolate, the first Cuban feature film nominated for the Oscars. The director, producer and screenwriter has also been linked to our cinema through the films Cachito, A Private Matter, Bámbola, Things I Left in Havana, Volavérunt, When You Come Back to My Side, Rancor, Queens, Ants in the Mouth, A French Rose and Winds of Havana.

Roth and Perugorría will receive the award at the tribute ceremony to Latin American actresses and actors who have made a place for themselves in our cinema with characters that have captivated audiences in films directed, among others, by Carlos Saura, Jaime Chávarri, Jose Luis Garci, Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Agustín Díaz Yanes, Enrique Urbizu, Mariano Barroso, Gerardo Herrero, Gracia Querejeta, Chus Gutiérrez, Patricia Ferreira, Álex de la Iglesia, Pedro Olea, Pedro Almodóvar, Ángeles González Sinde, Belén Macias, Iciar Bollaín, Isaki Lacuesta and Cesc Gay.
