Jorge Luis Ríos García, a young Cuban radio broadcaster, recently arrived in the United States with the intention of settling permanently in this nation.

The presenter of the National Radio News is in the city of Miami for a few weeks now.

The Cuban broadcaster has worked in radio and television programs. He was seen and heard in spaces such as ConexionCuba, Aló Cubano, Estación Caribe and in a section of the magazine Ruta 10.

Ríos García was heard on Radio Rebelde thanks to his participation in the National Radio News, Ventana Rebelde, Música Viva, Parada de Éxitos and La Cita.

According to reports, the young man also worked presenting shows at the Tropicana cabaret and in the Legendarios del Guajirito project.

"How do you see yourself in the near future?", they asked the young man in a recent interview, who studied Art History at the University of Oriente. "The future is so uncertain that I don't dare answer that question. I only aspire to continue working on my professional improvement and as a human being. Things to do? Many things," he responded.

"I would like to experience the adrenaline of a live program, I haven't had that opportunity; or to host a great television musical; but, above all, to continue being the reason for companionship for hundreds of people anywhere in Cuba or the world," he added.

"Any journalist knows that doing vox populi in Cuba today is not an easy task. While Ruta 10 has provided the possibility of analyzing different topics on the public agenda, not all people are willing to talk and the reasons are multiple. The truth is that those three minutes on screen take us more than an hour of attempts to connect with people," he emphasized when answering about his section on Ruta 10.

"Throughout this time on air, valuable opinion has prevailed, solid argument, transparent criticism of the problems that afflict us as a society; however, we have also received insults, strong verbal attacks. On any subject we find diverse points of view, because our society is diverse, because we don't all think alike. As long as it is from a place of respect, all opinions are welcome on Ruta 10," he added.

This young broadcaster joins a growing list of ICRT communicators who have left the Island.

Early this year, broadcaster Frank Abel Gómez Bernal did so, who worked for decades with the island's official media, and who requested political asylum in the United States upon his arrival.

"My work in Cuba is not political, I do a different type of programming. I was an ordinary citizen," he said to journalist Javier Díaz in an interview for the Univision network after the controversy generated by his arrival.

Fran Abel is in Miami after being released by U.S. immigration authorities with the I-220A, a permit that allows him to remain free under immigration supervision.

He arrived at the southern border of the United States with an official passport from the La Habana regime.

"It was not my intention to cause a problem for anyone but it was my only way out of that place," he emphasized.
