Game 6 of the American League Championship Series featured key home runs by the Houston Astros in the first and ninth innings as they eliminated the Yankees, with the game ending in a final score of 5 runs to 4, to the delight of a packed Minute Maid Park.
The game opened scoring in the very first inning, when Yulieski Gurriel, with two men on base, hit a home run and put the home team ahead.
The ball went to left field, with Gurriel pulling to his side and it is the 4th home run he has hit in the Major League postseason, although it is his first of this year.
Yulieski became with that hit the first player in history with a 3-run homer in 3 consecutive postseasons.
El Yuli, who finished 4-for-2, with those 3 RBIs, now has 8 runs batted in so far in October baseball, with 11 games played, while reaching 20 RBIs in 37 games for life in MLB playoffs.
The New Yorkers had a hopeful moment in the top of the ninth, with a home run by DJ LeMahieu to tie it at 4, sending their star closer to handle sending the game to extra innings.
But Aroldis Chapman, after getting two easy outs (strikeout and fly ball) got tangled with George Springer, to whom he threw 3 consecutive sliders (2 of them balls) and could not get control, giving him a walk.
Right after that, also on a slider, José Altuve hit a home run that unleashed the madness in Houston and sent the Yankees home.
Chapman had not allowed runs in the entire postseason and this is his third loss in 32 playoff games and 5 decisions.
