Matanzas native Jhoen Lefont set a world record this Wednesday for ball control in an unprecedented modality, in the pool at the capital's Complejo Baraguá.
It was in the category of longest time maintaining a soccer ball balanced on the head, with a five-kilogram weight around the waist. The time was 7:02.10 minutes.
Lefont maintained the ball's balance while performing arm and leg exercises in the water to keep himself afloat.
"I had a special interest in achieving it. It's a new test and I prepared very well, with physical exercises both on land and in the water. I was completely exhausted," Lefont commented exclusively to the Agencia Cubana de Noticias.
The so-called Dolphin of Cuban football asserted that the legs are what work the most in this weighted attempt in order to maintain balance. That's why he trained a lot with semi-squats.
"This is a new modality created by me, which incorporates the weight and complicates the work even more. It's unprecedented and I've already made the proposal to those in charge of accrediting attempts in the Guinness World Records book," Lefont stated.
The Dolphin of Cuban football currently holds nine world records certified by Guinness World Records.
