Iván Pedroso Receives Award in Spain That Recognizes His Impact on Sports

Renowned Cuban athlete Iván Pedroso received the MARCA Legend award, a recognition of the impact of his career in sports, in Spain.

This ceremony took place at the Gallur Sports Complex in Madrid. Pedroso became the ninth athlete to receive this award.

Upon receiving the award, the Cuban showed his emotion and thanked the entity that presented it, as well as Spain, which welcomed him in a second stage of his life.

Juan Ignacio Gallardo, director of MARCA, before presenting the trophy said: "Your trajectory is praiseworthy and how much you are doing for athletics to grow in your current role as a coach."

Pedroso's trajectory is remarkable. The athlete was world champion on nine different occasions and won a gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Currently, he has become one of the best long jump coaches, helping five world-class athletes, including Venezuelan Olympic champion Yulimar Rojas.

The athletes trained by Pedroso also dedicated emotional messages to him, acknowledging the support that the Cuban has provided them.

Spanish athlete Ana Peleteiro stated that he is not only her coach, but also her family.

For his part, Cuban triple jumper Jordan Díaz stated that his dreams in athletics are tied to being alongside Iván Pedroso.

This is how Iván Pedroso received the MARCA Legend award, a distinction that reflects his great contribution to sports not only as an athlete, but also as a coach.

An honor that represents the trajectory of an elite athlete and who continues to be a prominent figure within athletics.

In the early years of his career as an athlete, Iván Pedroso had to face skepticism from specialists. This was because he had a height lower than average for a long jumper.

However, it was not an impediment for the young Cuban to show his talent and begin to stand out in athletics.

At 13 years old, Iván Pedroso had already become a well-known figure, participating in the Pan American Games in Havana in 1991.

That same year, he participated in his first Olympic Games in Barcelona, achieving a fabulous fourth place.

During the following years, the also-called grasshopper of Cuba achieved success in international athletics events. He won several gold medals in Canada (1993), Spain (1995), and Argentina (1995).

In the year 2000, Iván Pedroso won the Olympic gold medal in the long jump event at the Sydney Olympic Games. Thanks to this, he became one of the best athletes in his country.

Over the years, Iván Pedroso has become one of the best long jumpers in the world.

He has achieved nine world champion titles, three gold medals in Pan American Games, and five gold medals in indoor competitions.

His best mark was achieved in Sweden, where at 16 years old he achieved a jump of 8.70 meters. Likewise, he obtained a gold medal at the 1999 World Indoor Championship, with a jump of 8.62 meters.

In 2000, he won the gold medal at the Sydney Olympic Games with a jump of 8.56 meters.

Iván Pedroso is an example of overcoming obstacles and dedication to sports. His great talent and motivation have allowed him to achieve great accomplishments in Cuban athletics.
