Isaac Delgado Wins Grand Prize at Cubadisco 2026 for Album "Mira como vengo"

Cuban singer Isaac Delgado, known as El Chévere de la Salsa, claimed the Grand Prize of the 29th edition of Cubadisco 2026 for his album Mira como vengo, the highest honor at the International Cuban Music Fair held in Havana.


The award ceremony — spanning 35 categories — took place on Saturday, May 17, at the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater of Cuba, as part of an edition dedicated to Cuban son, declared an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2025.


Mira como vengo, Delgado's first album in six years, blends timba, salsa, and Afro-Cuban elements with contemporary arrangements. Released in 2025 on the AnZn label, the record was met with critical acclaim upon its debut. "I'm back with more strength, because life embraces me and deserves to be celebrated," the artist declared when presenting the album.


Other notable honorees at the gala included Orlando Valle "Maraca", who received the Best Music Producer award, while Mayito Rivera, Pedrito Calvo, Septeto Santiaguero, and Orquesta Elito Revé received special recognitions. Puerto Rican artists Gilberto Santa Rosa and José Alberto "El Canario" were honored for their close ties to Cuban music.


Isaac Delgado, born in Marianao, Havana, on September 11, 1962, is one of the most influential figures in Cuban salsa and timba. With more than four decades of career, the artist has won multiple EGREM awards and performed on the most prestigious stages across Latin America, Europe, and the United States.
