Cuban sports commentator and narrator Hiram Sánchez Cajide died in the eastern province of Las Tunas after a strong battle due to secondary complications from dengue.

A note from the local state press indicates that at the time of his death, Sánchez Cajide was 68 years old and had more than three decades of professional experience.

"For many years Hiram's charisma described sporting action in Las Tunas, through the airwaves of his eternal home Radio Victoria. A mentor of new generations, a collector of anecdotes, colleague and the friendly voice that tested nerves when home runs flirted with the foul line. Witty by nature, Sánchez Cajide's words find refuge in that passion that he put his own blood into in order to help narrate it," they recount.

"From the adolescent passionate about baseball, accomplice in the madness as even his mother thought, all just to make audible the performance of swings, fielding and runs. From a branch or shade in any of the playing fields, to the radio booth, this son of the land maintained the virtue of conversing with everyone, even though time played against him. The beginning came behind a sound console, but the threads of destiny had reserved a space for him behind the microphone, even though he confessed to being a man of few words in his beginnings," they add.
