Guitarist and singer Héctor Téllez Jr. shared the satisfaction he feels performing on stage with renowned pianist and composer Meme Solís.
The young artist recalled moments when he listened as a child to his father, Héctor Téllez, sing some of the songs that make up the repertoire of this popular island artist.
"Since I was a child I've been listening to these songs. I remember watching my dad Héctor Téllez sing and make everything transform into pure magic," wrote the singer, a resident of the U.S., on his Instagram profile.
He also stated that "today I have the joy of humbly trying to sing this music that has inspired me so much to be a better artist. Meme Solís is one of the greatest musicians that Cuban music and world music have ever produced."
He then recalled that his father "was part of the quartet Los Meme, and today I thank life for the opportunity to be part of this beautiful show and a cast full of artists that I admire and respect so much."
Héctor Téllez Jr. shared the stage with Meme Solís as part of a concert that the latter performed on Saturday, October 28, at the Miami Dade County Auditorium.
In the video that the young man published on the social network, he is seen accompanied by Solís on piano while performing one of the songs that are part of the show.
"Wow! Singing boleros you have your father's same voice!"; "With that beautiful voice and those lovely songs everything is guaranteed, pure enjoyment. Your own talent. Congratulations," are some of the comments that the artist's followers have left on his post.
About his father, Héctor Téllez Jr. has always said that he is his idol, his friend and his teacher. The generational and musical gaps don't matter to him because ultimately blood calls to blood and good music knows no era or style.
He was inspired by artists like Carlos Santana, Led Zeppelin, Marilyn Manson, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Queen, among others, clear references that have made him champion rock and roll since his musical beginnings in Cuba.
A few years ago he decided to emigrate to the U.S., from where he has continued his career. Perhaps there he has found his place and has managed to develop some projects that he did not have the opportunity to realize on the island.
For example, one of the most important moments of his latest album was when he collaborated with R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, with whom he recorded some tracks for his album, produced by former Screaming Trees drummer Barret Martin.
In an interview published on the SPIN platform, Téllez Jr. stated that he has quickly integrated into a network of music heavyweights from whom he continues to learn lessons.
It was through The Mavericks leader, Raúl Malo, that the young artist met Thirty Tigers owner David Macías, who sent his demos to Martin and from there resulted "an instant musical alchemy" that led to the production of his album.
According to SPIN, one of the people who believed in the singer was Betty Malo, designer, stylist, reality show star based in Nashville and wife of Raúl Malo. Upon seeing him on stages in Cuba, the artist was "mesmerized."
"I didn't know who he was, but I was mesmerized. His voice attracts you as if you had never heard rock and roll before, and his way of playing guitar is a magic carpet ride that Héctor takes you on… I knew in three seconds that he was a star," Betty Malo said to the aforementioned outlet.
