Haila María Mompié and reggaeton artist Yomil performed yesterday in the program celebrating the 25th anniversary of the musical magazine 23 y M, directed and hosted by Edith Masola, their most recent collaboration titled Tía Tata cuenta cuentos.
It is a musical piece "produced by @felodirector in a wonderful musical collaboration with my very dear and talented Yomil, one of the greatest and most important exponents of our urban music in Cuba these days", Haila has stated.
The song, she added, is available on various digital platforms and she urged her followers to enjoy it.
"Get ready to move those hips while enjoying 'RESPETA' alongside the Diva of the People @hailamompie. We're going to heat up little Cuba with this one, it was about time."
This was the text accompanied by a video that Yomil published on his Instagram to announce the launch of the new song, which he recorded in Havana in collaboration with Haila María Mompié.
The video, filmed on Paseo del Prado, shows both artists very happy singing and dancing while being accompanied by models and dancers. Likewise, it can be seen how the vocalists decided to integrate the common people, since both Yomil and Haila have been heavily criticized on more than one occasion for seeming superior and not reciprocating the affection they receive from their audience.
Respeta, respeta, when you've seen a bird shooting at a shotgun is the chorus of this number that alludes to comments made by influencer OtaOla about Haila.
Social networks are like a gigantic masquerade ball where it matters little if you know how to dance or not; the heart of the matter seems to have become whether you're going to choose to wear a mask or not; and if you do wear one, what are you willing to do with it.
It is in that free, easy-to-use and poorly regulated context that attacks by masked individuals take place. And artists, influencers, politicians and public figures in general are the object and target of hundreds and even thousands of criticisms, insults and questions of all kinds that in a non-virtual environment would, in many cases, be punished by law.
This reality seems to be what motivated Cuban singers Yomil Hidalgo and Haila María Mompié to come together in a collaboration that they premiered on the main digital platforms under the title: "Tía Tata Cuenta Cuentos".
The music video, directed by Cuban filmmaker Felo, was filmed on the streets of Havana, especially on Paseo del Prado; where they can be seen surrounded by people, many of whom apparently approached the artists spontaneously during filming.
The short begins with a young man who, as a parody, simulates one of the many youtubers and/or influencers who dedicate themselves to monetizing on digital platforms by commenting on the personal and professional lives of artists; but in this case it is precisely the young man who, among criticisms, announces the theme of Yomil and Haila assuring that "they think they're big and that this song is going to be huge, but no one is going to listen to it in their house". Many followers of the Cuban singers picked up on what they understood as "a very direct hint" at Cuban-American influencer Alexander Otaola with comments like "when he responds to Otaola I won't say anything but there will be signs".
Once on stage, The Diva of the People and member of the urban music group Yomil y El Dany raise their voices: "don't believe everything they tell you out there…Look, you talk about me and I don't even consider you, the more I ignore you, the more you heat up", Yomil sings.
"You've already dedicated more than 100 indirect shots at me, tell me how it feels not to get a response… keep talking like crazy, it goes in one ear and out the other", Haila continues.
