Cuban singer and songwriter Alexander Delgado, founder and lead vocalist of reggaeton duo Gente de Zona, turned 47 on August 21, 2026. Born in the Alamar neighborhood of Havana, Delgado formed the group in 2000 alongside fellow local rappers, an origin that in 2026 marks 25 uninterrupted years for the musical project.
Before committing fully to music, Delgado held a string of jobs — including a stint in a cigar factory — and played basketball professionally while training as an accountant at the Camilo Cienfuegos Military School. At 20 he immersed himself in Cuban hip-hop and became active in the Alamar Rap Festival, the scene that gave rise to Gente de Zona.
The duo, now made up of Delgado and Randy Malcolm, is marking its silver anniversary with a Spanish tour running from June through August 2026 through cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Tenerife, alongside the April release of the single "Se le pasa," the first preview of a new album blending merengue with Santiago-style comparsa and Afro-Cuban rhythms.
Over the years Delgado has notched hits including "Bailando," with Enrique Iglesias, which topped Billboard's Latin Songs chart in 2014, and has been honored with several Latin Grammy Awards, including one for the song "Patria y Vida" in 2021.
