Yaimé Pérez and Juan Miguel Echevarría continued to maintain a good pace in their preparation for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The discus thrower achieved first place at the FBK Games athletics meet, which took place in Hengelo, Netherlands, by throwing the implement to 65.91 meters.

Once again she surpassed Croatian Sandra Perkovic (65.80), while third place went to Portuguese Liliana Ca (65.07). Fellow Cuban Denia Caballero finished fourth, with 62.46.

In Havana, Echevarría reached 8.30 meters in the confrontation matches of the Olympic athletics pre-selection team held at the Panamericano Stadium.

Both the world bronze medalist and his teammate Maikel Massó, who jumped 8.39 last weekend, will face off in the coming weeks on the summer tour, although they should not complete more than three presentations before Tokyo, Jit pointed out.

On the international front, Dutch Sifan Hassan set a world record in the 10,000 meters in Hengelo, with 29:06.82 minutes, surpassing the record of Ethiopian Almaz Ayana (29:17.45) in Rio-2016.

In the 100 meters, Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce managed to get down to 10.63 seconds, thereby becoming the author of the second all-time mark, behind Florence Griffith-Joyner's (USA) 10.49.

Also surprising was the time of 9.77 by American Trayvon Bromell during the Nacac New Life Invitational. He is the ninth man to break 9.80.
