Cuban singer Olga Lucía Lago Muela, Lucía Lago, passed away today in Havana at the age of 95, according to those close to the exceptional artist.
Lucía, a member of the Trío Hermanas Lago, had intense musical activity since 1947 when she joined what became known as Cuba's and America's first female harmonic trio, in which she stood out alongside her sisters Cristina and Graciela.
Staunch defenders of song and the most authentic genres of Cuban music, the Hermanas Lago not only created a vast repertoire that was recorded in Caribbean discography, but also accompanied outstanding performers such as Bola de Nieve, Jorge Negrete, Alfredo Sadel, and Rosita Fornés.
The most renowned theaters and cabarets, stellar programs on Cuban Television and daily broadcasts on radio stations CMQ and COCO, made Lucía and her sisters a benchmark of good taste, discipline, and dedication.
Lucía Lago was recognized with distinctions for National Culture, Raúl Gómez García, August 23rd, and Adolfo Guzmán; in addition to other accolades presented by radio and television.
Shortly before her passing, the last surviving member of the group was collaborating on the production of a documentary about the Hermanas Lago that will be released soon.
