Known as the Lark of Song, Xiomara Alfaro was one of the great musical legends that shone on the artistic scene of 1950s Cuba
The great voice of Cuban singer Xiomara Alfaro fell silent after a period of illness.
The legendary bolero singer, whose interpretation of Siboney was the favorite of Ernesto Lecuona, passed away on Sunday, June 24, at age 88 in Cape Coral, Florida, around 11 p.m., confirmed by Gema Castañedo, publicist and friend of the artist.
Although the cause of death has not been revealed, it is known that the performer had been hospitalized two weeks before. "The day before she was admitted, we talked a lot," said Castañedo.
Known as the Lark of Song, Xiomara Alfaro was one of the great musical legends that shone on the artistic scene of 1950s Cuba.
Alfaro had no children; she left behind her husband, pianist and composer Rafael Benítez, with whom she was married for five decades.
